How to check if your phone is eSIM-compatible

Your phone needs two things: eSIM support and no carrier lock. Here’s how to check both in under a minute.

The 10-second check

  1. Open Settings › General › About.
  2. Scroll down. If you see EID (a long number), your iPhone supports eSIM.
  3. Check it’s unlocked: Settings › General › About › Carrier Lock should say No SIM restrictions.
  1. Open the phone app and dial *#06#.
  2. If an EID number appears, your phone supports eSIM.
  3. Or go to Settings › Connections › SIM manager (Samsung) or Settings › Network & internet › SIMs (Pixel) and look for Add eSIM.
Bought your phone through a carrier on a contract? It may be locked. Ask them to unlock it before you travel — it’s usually free once the contract is paid.

Is my phone unlocked?

A locked phone only accepts SIMs from the carrier that sold it. eSIMs from MobiWonder need an unlocked phone. On iPhone, look for “No SIM restrictions” (above). On Android, try any other SIM — if it connects, you’re unlocked.

Phones that don’t support eSIM

Heads up. iPhones sold in mainland China, most iPhones from Hong Kong and Macao (except 13 mini, 12 mini, SE 2020 and XS), and Galaxy phones bought in China, Hong Kong or Taiwan don’t support eSIM.
