Yes — both iMessage and WhatsApp work perfectly with an eSIM. Here’s how each one functions:
WhatsApp with eSIM
No problem at all! WhatsApp only uses your phone number once — during initial verification. After that, it runs entirely on an internet connection.
This means you can keep using WhatsApp even if you swap out your SIM or switch to an eSIM. Your chats and account stay linked to your original number.
iMessage with eSIM
iMessage also works seamlessly with eSIM. Since it uses WiFi or mobile data to send messages, you don’t need an active phone number. You can send and receive messages using the email address linked to your Apple ID.
If iMessage Isn’t Working
Double-check your iMessage settings:
- Open Settings
- Tap Messages
- Make sure iMessage is turned on
- Tap Send & Receive
- Ensure your Apple ID email is checked and your phone number is unchecked (if it’s not in use)
Then try restarting your device:
- Hold the volume down + side button until the power slider appears
- Drag to power off
- After 30 seconds, press the side button again to turn it back on
Once rebooted, iMessage should be ready to go!
