What Are the Disadvantages of an eSIM?

While eSIMs are super convenient, there are a few drawbacks to keep in mind:

  • Not supported on all devices — especially older phones and tablets
  • Transferring eSIMs isn’t always simple — moving your eSIM to a new device can require extra steps or support from your provider
  • No physical backup — if something goes wrong, you can’t just pop it out and reinsert it like a traditional SIM

That said, for most users with supported devices, the benefits still outweigh the downsides.
